With over 30 years of experience and extensive education & research in the fields of dentistry, medicine, and nutrition, Dr. Acquista offers his patients the finest in cosmetic dentistry catered to their individual wants and needs... but that is only the beginning!
Our office doesn’t just treat problems like tooth decay, gum disease, and “broken smiles.” Dr. Acquista offers a comprehensive range of dental services using state-of-the-art technology including digital x-rays, intraoral cameras, and cosmetic imaging. We also refer our patients to labs and specialists that utilize scanners, CAD/CAM, 3D x-rays (CBCT), and other advanced technologies. Dr. Acquista and his team also offer the best solutions available for controlling gum disease and future tooth decay. We use bioactive bonding materials that are superior to conventional bonding, with less post-op sensitivity and longer lasting results, as well as composite materials that do not contain BIS-GMA – an endocrine (hormone) disruptor present in most conventional bonding materials. Additionally, our practice utilizes Perio Protect® (an FDA-approved medical device to help control gum disease). At the office of Dr. Acquista, we use a gentle approach and virtually painless method of administering anesthetic. On lower teeth restorations, we use a different technique to numb the tooth so that the patient can avoid hours of numbness on one whole side of the mouth.

Michael Acquista, DDS
Dr. Acquista was born in Brooklyn and raised in Dyker Heights, the middle of seven children. His dad, a loved and revered dentist, taught him to develop x-rays, pour stone models and the technique of casting gold which fueled his interest in the profession. After graduating Columbia College, Dr. Acquista attended Columbia School of Dental & Oral Surgery graduating in 1981. After a residency at Westchester County Medical Center, he returned to Bay Ridge and opened his office in 1983.

Severe Gum Disease Linked To Increased Stroke Risk
A review published in the Journal of Periodontology found a significant link between severe gum disease and an increased risk of ischemic stroke. The study, led by Steven Sitt from Taipei Medical University, analyzed 15 studies and found severe periodontitis increased stroke risk by up to 4.19 times.
The findings highlight the importance of regular dental care and interdisciplinary collaboration between dental and medical professionals to reduce stroke risk through improved plaque control and inflammation reduction.
